studio friday

OsloPress::StudioFriday::6

Organization is definitely key when it comes to running a business – even more so when space is limited.  So, to better organize our studio, we’re moving a few things around.  But until things are back in order, we’re stuck feeling a little, well, surrounded.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, there is  a very large piece of Tres Leches cake waiting for me in my fridge…

letterpress business cards

OsloPress::Letterpress::BusinessCards

We finally printed some new business cards! Business cards are one of those things that are constantly put on the back burner around here. Sadly, we don’t have any excuse for this given that everything we need to make them is right at our fingertips. Hmm… what’s that old adage? Something about the shoemaker never mending his shoes… or is it that the shoemaker never has new shoes…? Well, in any case, you get my point. When you run your own small business, you find yourself constantly trying to do too many things at once. However, when you finally cross something off that forever growing to-do list – it does feel great.

feeling refreshed

OsloPress::FeelingRefreshed::Snow&Berries

As mentioned in the previous post, we had snow for the first time this winter. It’s a rare occurrence in this part of North Carolina; and while some may dislike it, I always welcome it. Unlike a rainy day where things are constantly in flux from all the rushing water, snow brings a stillness along with it. Even if just for a moment, there is always that sense of things being at rest as the white blankets the ground. Once the clouds have passed, the fallen snow boldly brightens up a winter day – the sun reflecting off of its surface, the partially browned grass and decaying leaves briefly hidden from view. For this reason, snow will always be a favorite of mine.

I’m happy to say we officially took some time off in honor of the snow.  When you run your own business, taking a break does not always feel like an option. So, we enjoyed a day off. We shared a couch with sleeping cats and warm blankets while remembering to enjoy the view.  It was very needed, much deserved, and most definitely appreciated.

giveaway!

July marks our 2 year birthday here at Oslo Press!  That’s right, our doors (aka this website) have been officially open for business for 2 years!  The past couple of years have been a crazy hectic time full of learning and a whole lot of late nights; but every minute has been an awesome adventure that I can’t imagine not having been a part of.  To celebrate, we’re participating in a little giveaway over on Style Me Pretty.  Be sure to head on over there for a chance to win 100 engraved wood place cards, escort cards, or favor tags.  Best of luck!!

5000lbs

new-heidelberg

I just wanted to share this recent acquisition with our readers.  This is 5500lbs of printing press, sitting on the trailer of my ever helpful uncle Bill.  Soon after this was taken we embarked on our return trip to the Oslo Press studio in Raleigh, NC.

We have choice words for whomever is responsible for the maintenance on I-95 in South Carolina, but the press did arrive safely.  Now for the even more daunting task of unloading it…

the new designs are officially up!

I know, I know… we kept hinting, right?  Well, they are finally here…  4 new designs have just been added to our collection.  Here’s a little peek; but for more views be sure to visit our collection page and visit their individual pages.

Oslo Press - New Designs 2008

Along with the addition of the new designs, the website received a little facelift.  You will now find more information about our wood invitations as well as letterpress invites in case you are interested.   We have also broken our Process page up a bit and updated some information in hopes of making it more easy to navigate.  There is even a Kudos page that we can update with testimonials and press coverage.  It’s a start, at least.  Eventually we would like to add photos of other products, such as place cards, menus, table numbers, etc.  But these things take time…  something we seem to be forever lacking around here!

Please let us know if you run into any problems in navigation or catch any errors.  But mostly – enjoy!

an overdue thank you

Yes, Thanksgiving day has come and gone, but we still need to be thoughtful and appreciative each and every day.  Around here we can not thank everyone enough for all the support we have received since starting our business.  The feedback as well as blog and other media coverage has been great.  I’m not really sure what our expectations were when we first started out – but surely they have been exceeded.  So thank you to everyone that has been involved in some way – from relatives and friends with advice, to bloggers and magazine editors that liked what they saw, and especially to the clients we have met along the way.

With that said, I would like to mention that we were featured over at Oh So Beautiful Paper a while back.  I had not yet stumbled across this blog until I was informed about the feature; but it is full of papery goodness and other neat finds and totally worth a visit.

Also, we are still busy working behind the scenes here; but keep your eyes open for a little website face lift in the near future!

sneak peek – part 2

For quite some time now we have been planning to update the website with new designs.  However, we are very much behind schedule and here it is…  the middle of October already!  We really didn’t take into account that the summer would be jam-packed with working on clients’ jobs – leaving little time for anything else.  Fortunately though, just as the temperature outside is finally cooling down a bit, I think we can work in the time to update the website.  I won’t give any specific dates as we wouldn’t want to get any hopes up.  But soon… I promise!  Until then, I think another sneak peek is way overdue:

Here you can see a little envelope detail in action – teal ink on pearl white cotton paper with a combination of Lily Wang and Arabic typefaces.  Enjoy!

back from a little break

Just a little update to let you know we are back from a quick trip to the mountains.  When you start your own business, you quickly learn that free time can become non-existent.  And vacations?  Well, you really need to plan ahead in order to make sure they actually happen and things go smoothly.  So, even a short trip is better than no escape at all.

Overall our trip was great even though we encountered a few hitches along the way.  I think we returned home feeling like we need another break as soon as possible!

Oh, and all that worrying I did about the weather?  Well, as it turned out, yes, there was rain.  However, those days weren’t so bad as they scared away the tourists and there were views such as this:

and this:

And then…   when the rain really cleared up, it left us with this:

I think that made up for the rain and the minor hang-ups we encountered along the way.
